List your Old Barn for Sale, Free

America is going through a rustic period in building and design and the demand for old barns for sale, their barn boards and barn beams is strong.

In many cases, an old barn that needs to be dismantled has been owned by a family for many years. Many barn owners want something good to happen to their barn (dismantled and reused) more than any money they may receive for it.

It may take many weeks to sell an old barn. There are many factors to sell old barn wood that effect the value of any barn to be dismantled, such as location, wood species of the boards, lumber and timbers, general condition, is it standing or half fallen in, saftey, etc.

Some questions that may need to be answered are:

What size is the building? (30x50, 40x60, etc)
Has the electricity been disconnected?
Is there room to dismantle with heavy equipment?
Has the barn been cleared of "stuff" that you want?
Is the roof intact, is it tin, asphalt, wood shingle, etc., are the floors safe?
Is there room to load barn boards, beams on a semi-truck, flatbed?
Are there load restrictions on a bridge or the roads to the barn?
Are the beams softwood or hardwood?
Can it be rebuilt into a barn home?
Are the beams hand hewn (made by hand with an axe) or were they sawn on a saw mill?
What color is the siding. width of the boards, length?
Are the boards square edge, shiplap or t&g?
Has any part of the barn been white washed? (it removes easily)
Can you provide photos?
Do you have directions to the barn?
What is the barn foundation?
Barn dismantle or barn demolition.

You may sell your old barn quickly, but often it can take many weeks to work through the process of listing your old barn for sale, showing your barn to potential barn wood buyers and getting to a successful end.

You may be able to sell your barn for a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars or more. Not many barns will be dismantled and put back up. Perhaps as few as one 1 or 2 in 1000 barns. Just the right circumstance's would have to happen for a reconstruction of an old barn, particularly into a barn home to take place.

Most standing old barns for sale are valued in the $300 to $3,000 range for salvage. Certain barns may qualify to be sold at a higher price. For example, they may contain a large amount of rare lumber or beams, such as chestnut. (wormy oak is often mistaken for chestnut). Many old barns have some history, and certain barns may be of more interest for this reason.

"You can have our old barn free, if you dismantle it, haul it away and clean up the site." can be a formula for disappointment.

Cleanup is often hard to describe. Most times it is better to come to the understanding that there is to be addition work, or cleanup after the barn has been dismantled and after the dismantlers have finished and left the site."Clean up", should be defined in any agreement to dismantle. It may be best to hire someone other than the dismantler to finish the cleanup of the barn or building, or perhaps do it yourself.

"Thanks for the listing. I must have received 50 calls starting the next day after it was posted. My barn sold and will be dismantled next month, used for a kitchen in Northern New Jersey...". Kurt
